The ISB Model United Nations program was founded in 2006, along with the creation of the International School of Beaverton. When it first began, it had only seven members. However, all the of the members were fully committed to the program and proceeded to go through a year of forging traditions.

After a little help from a few MUN officials, the enthusiastic ISB participants chose to represent the Republic of Mauritius at the spring conference. They spent the first four months of school researching everything possible about the country itself: statistics, maps, etc. In January, they began preparing for credentialing. They were required to put together a binder of individual and group work such as resolutions, position papers, and hand-drawn maps. The entire team of delegates worked extremely hard to pass credentialing, which was and still is necessary in order to attend the spring conference.

On the morning of the first day of the spring conference, the delegates arrived at ISB before the beginning of the school day. All of the delegates borrowed a school laptop, took a few pictures, got into cars, and headed out to the University of Oregon in Eugene. Upon arriving at the University, they immediately reported to the makeshift MUN headquarters to receive nametags and country placards. Soon after, they split up and rushed to their respective committee meeting places.

After a full day of assimilating themselves into their committees, they went back to their hotel rooms to relax and recuperate until the next day. The following morning brought another day of thoughtful debate and work. The Mauritian delegates spent the day in awe of the seriousness and enormosity of the entire conference. After getting back to their hotel in the evening, all of the Mauritian delegates agreed on one thing: MUN was a program that wasn't just about studying history and statistics; it was a program that educated and gave about current global issues to students.

After the delegates returned to ISB, they all reflected on what they had learned at the conference. They agreed that the conference had opened their eyes in ways that no other program could; that they had all learned valuable lessons that would aid them in conserving and maintaining the earth's resources and politics. The delegates vowed to continue and oversee the growth of the program for the next year, so that more students would be able to receive the unforgettable experience that is Model United Nations.
